Who We Are
de•fined Ministries is the youth ministry of Calvary Chapel Bend.
We are focused on providing an environment where our youth can learn about Jesus Christ, develop an intimate walk with Him, and take this Gospel of hope and salvation into their schools, homes, and throughout the world (Acts 1:8). This is done by focusing on the teaching of God's Word, time in prayer and communion, and fellowship (Acts 2:42). We also want to be those who seek to fulfill the Great Commission (Matt. 28:19,20) by doing outreach in our community and abroad.
For more information about getting involved, contact Ben Bronson at 541.383.5097 or email at definedministries@gmail.com

FnL - Installment #2
Okay, so as Julia mentioned in her comment on the last post, it's time to think about who you're inviting to the next Friday Nite Live. I figured I'd better give you guys some info regarding the next installment of FnL, since it will be a little different than the first week.
First of all, it will not be on the first Friday of January. I know, I know, we just got started and we're already breaking tradition, but I think you guys will be glad to wait a week. Why? Well, that brings me to the second point.
On top of the Wii, xBox, ping-pong, foosball, apple game of Julia's, chess, and so forth, we're also going to be having some special music. When I say "special," I mean good. Who is it thats going to be playing this music for us? ME!!!
No, not really. That wouldn't be good or fun. It might be "special" though. But not good special. Special in a short-bus kind of way. Did I really just say that? Oops. So who is it really? It's a band called esterlyn. If you haven't heard of them yet, you will soon. They will be spending the better part of '08 touring with Kutless and Stellar Kart. Before they go on tour, though, they are stopping in Bend and will be playing for us. We will still be having all the games, activities, and prizes, but we figured a concert would go along nicely with the evening. If you want to check out their music, you can look at their myspace. Click here to check them out.
So now you have one more reason to invite your friends out.
Friday, Jan. 11th. More details to follow...

Friday Nite Live - It's On!
Well, we made it through our first FnL. Hope everyone had a great time. Thanks for your participation, and I'm already looking forward to January.
Just a quick recap for those not in attendance (or those with memory loss).
•We had about 30 students show up, which was awesome for our first FnL.
•Ashlee won the icebreaker game with 8 clothespins, and the Webb's couldn't seem to hang on to their clothespins, try as they might.
•Rian learned how to tell the difference between odd and even numbers, and Bean spit his gum at Zach during our relay. The even team won. Yea!
•The hang-out time was great, and we decided to nix the last group game so we could spend more time playing the board games and video games. We also found out that Terry is an amazing bowler on the Wii.
•Terry shared his story with us about how the Lord got ahold of his life, and how he had a hole filled that nothing else could fill.
•Vanessa won the door prize.
Let's remember to continue praying for our friends that came, and that the Lord would bring even more friends in January.

Winter Camp '08
It's here!! It's here!! Well, almost. It's only a couple of months away. But it is time to start preparing for it. What is "it"? Winter Camp, of course. Jan. 18-21 at Wild Horse Canyon.
This year we're teaming up/tagging along with the youth group from Crossroads Community Church in Vancouver, WA. The camp name? the Awesome. There's going to be a guest worship band (click here), a late night concert with Needtobreathe, powerful teaching, and, of course, lots of food and all-around craziness. So, sign-up now. I mean it - now! Why are you still reading this? You should be signing up - now!!
Okay, I'll let you wait until the next time you're at church. But don't miss out on this one. And invite your friends - all of them ( both of them :-B ). Naw, I didn't mean it. I know you guys have lots of friends. But do tell them.

Corn Maze

You that check the blog from time to time will be the first to know...
This will be announced next Tuesday, but you guys will know from checking here. On Wednesday, Oct. 31st we will be going up to Terrebonne to run the corn maze. We'll be doing it in the dark, so it should be fun.
Remember what we talked about last Tuesday? What better way to start a conversation with your friends than by inviting them along.

Ekklesia
Hopefully none of you missed our study tonight. But just in case you did, here's a recap:
We made it to Romans 9:3 tonight. There we read that Paul would go to hell if only his countrymen could be saved. What a remarkable statement! I read this in preparation for our study weeks ago and haven't been able to get it out of my mind since. How many sleepless nights have I had worried about the salvation of the lost? Not nearly enough, I know that. This really got me thinking about some things.
What is church? Is it a building that we meet in? No, the church is the people. The building is a building. Sing it with me, "We are the church, we are the people." Oh, sorry, never mind that. But its true. We, as individual believers, make up the church. Tonight we looked through various places in the New Testament and never once came across a passage that said the believers were "going to church."
What is its function? Three things:
• To exalt God (1 Pet. 2:9)
• To edify the saints (Col. 1:28)
• To evangelize (Matt. 28:19,20)
We then looked at a couple of scripture passages to challenge us.
• Matt. 5:14-16 If we are the light of the world, we need to be shining. Instead of shining, are we hiding our light under a basket?
• 1 Cor. 1:26-29 Are you intimidated by not knowing enough? Do you think you aren't well enough equipped to be used? Poppycock! I would say its easier to be too well equipped to be used than not well enough equipped.
We then looked at Rom. 10:1. Here we see the key. Paul prayed for his fellow countrymen.
So here's what I want us to do. We finished our night by talking about what friends God has put in our path that need to be saved. We talked about our need to be praying for them. I would like to make the comment board of this post a bit of a prayer board. Over the next weeks and months let's put up comments here about how God is opening doors for us to share with those friends we are praying for. By doing so we can encourage each other to keep pushing on, as well as remind us to keep praying for each other. So name the friend or friends you're praying for, and from time to time update us on the progress.
If comments are off track, I'll moderate them, so keep the small-talk for the other posts.
Next Tuesday we'll look at some more practical ways to share.

Homework Schmomework
Yeah I know its not a word, but hey, neither is supercalifragalisticexpealidocious. Try that in your spell check, college lads and lasses.
Just wanted to write a post to encourage all of you to continue on with your schooling, but most of all READ YOUR BIBLES!! The greatest thing we can ever know is Jesus. Paul said in 1 Corinthians 2:1,2, "And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified."
Remember Jesus in all that you do.

School's Back In
Well, since we haven't posted since April, we've missed summer. It was pretty busy, eh? Fireworks, weddings, Mexico, etc, etc, etc.
As the new school year starts, let's remember to continue doing good. As Paul says in Galatians 6:9-10, "And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith."
Remember your classmates, teachers, families, all know you're a Christian. And, they're watching! They want to see how you react to the pop-quiz, the stuck locker, the ranch in your shoes (Bean). Let us continue to do good.

CITY WIDE SCAVENGER HUNT!!!
Don't forget, April 14th we will be having our city-wide scavenger hunt. Invite your friends. Like I mentioned last night, this is a great chance to get your unsaved friends out to an event. We will meet at the church at 3pm and start the scavenger hunt. It will be wacky, it will be original, and it will be fun. After the scavenger hunt we will be having some pizza and watching a movie on the big screen. After the movie we will be presenting the gospel to the unsaved. So invite lots of friends!
Bowling vs. Redmond

We had a great time last Thursday bowling, huh? Unfortunately, CC Redmond showed us up on the lanes. With a few of us with a high score of 35, yes 35, we didn't win the tourney. But, on the brighter side of things, we looked good doing it. How about those t-shirts, eh? We'll look forward to doing it again. For those of you who didn't make it - next time you won't want to miss out.

Bowling on Thursday
This Thursday at 6pm we will be bowling at the Sun Mountain Fun Center. This will be a fierce competition, so put on your game faces and be ready to roll (pun intended). We will be bowling against CC Redmond. Give me some ideas of what we can do to be a team. We suggested some t-shirts or headbands, so let me know. Lets keep it practical - something we can do this week easily.
